Amy Schumer Tweets #GirlYouDontNeedMakeup Photo, And It Started An Empowering Hashtag Trend
It’s no doubt that Amy Schumer has been killing it amongst the big dogs on Comedy Central as she started a third season of her ever-so-hilarious series Inside Amy Schumer. This week, before the hilarious sketch aired, Amy Schumer tweeted a #GirlYouDontNeedMakeup photo of her without makeup and it started a hashtag trend on Twitter. The caption read, “In 30 mins #InsideAmy airs. Post your #girlyoudontneedmakeup photos (no makeup and tag me and #InsideAmy and I’ll RT!” Naturally, Amy Schumer fans everywhere decided to join.
The sketch pokes fun at songs about embracing a natural, makeup-less beauty. In the sketch, Schumer implies how there are tons of songs out there that may say we look great without makeup ( “sweatpants, hair tied, chillin' with no makeup on. That’s when you’re the prettiest”), but if the world were to really see all of our makeup-free faces, they would probably regret it.
Despite the comedic approach to the topic, Schumer decided to celebrate it in a more empowering way on Twitter using the hashtag #girlyoudontneedmakeup, asking women all around the world to send in selfies of their makeup-free faces. Since then it’s been causing a powerful movement with tons of photos flowing in. Check out all the beauties below, and grab some makeup wipes and tweet your fresh faces, too.
