I can't say that I didn't see this move coming, but it's nice to have confirmation on the matter just the same. Jo is having twins on The Vampire Diaries because OF COURSE she is. She's a member of the Gemini Coven, remember? Which means the two children will eventually grow up and be forced to merge with one another. So they have that sweet family ritual to look forward to. But the more noteworthy part was how Jo found out about it in the first place. During Thursday night's episode "I'd Leave My Happy Home For You," Lily went off the Ripper deep end and crashed Jo's bachelorette party in an attempt to convince Bonnie to help her find some way to rescue her Heretic family from the prison world.
However, when Bonnie denied her offer, things got a little violent. After evading Bonnie's badass witch powers, she set her sights on Jo. But before she could sink her teeth into the situation, so to speak, Jo informed her that she's with child. That's when Lily put that vampire hearing to good use and heard the sound of not one, but two baby heartbeats. It is rather comical though at how surprised Jo seemed about the whole thing. I mean, did she really not see this coming? If I were her, I'd be expecting it. Either way, Jo and Alaric's lives just got a bit more stressful on both the supernatural and financial fronts. (Diapers are expensive, guys.)
It's also worth mentioning that this will put Jo back in the No. 1 spot on Kai's hit list if he ever escapes the prison world, which we all know he will. After all, he can't have any new twins crowding in on his power turf as Coven leader, especially since — according to Jo — her family will want the twins merge ASAP in order to strip Kai of all his power. So that's going to make for a fun little obstacle to overcome. Happy (Almost) Wedding Day, you two!
