Well, I guess that answers one very big question. Ever since Nina Dobrev announced she would be leaving The Vampire Diaries after Season 6, fans have been clamoring to predict the details surrounding her departure. And Thursday night's episode "I'd Leave My Happy Home For You" managed to finally give us some answers. I might as well just come right out and say it. Elena took the cure and is human again on TVD , which means we are one step closer to seeing how her grand exit will all play out. The question of whether or not Damon will become human again, however, still remains a very big question mark. But let me back up for a minute here…
After attempting to weigh out the pros and cons of being human once more, Damon created an illusion in Elena's mind of her old house as a way to help her understand the life they could have together. You see, the one big thing that was holding Elena back from accepting Damon's offer was the fact that she truly believes he would eventually miss being a vampire. So much so that he'd come to resent her for making him give it up. But he assured her that he'd happily do so if it meant they could spend one happy lifetime together. (Awww!!!) That's when he presented her with the cure… and she took it, just like that. And guess what? It came with one very big Delena perk!
As soon as the cure entered her system, all of Elena's old memories of Damon started flooding back in. The cure undid Alaric's compulsion! So that's a very big win for the Delena 'shipping community. But, of course, nothing on this show is ever easy, which means this twist came with a fair share of consequences. Since Elena now remembers everything, she was able to recall the time back on the island when she presented Damon with the very same offer, proposing that the two of them take the cure together. But he turned it down, which makes her think that he doesn't really want to be human after all. So I guess we're back at square one with all that.
I'm not saying that there still isn't a chance that Damon will take the cure as well — which, as we found out tonight, could happen simply by feeding on Human Elena's cure-filled blood. (Umm, if it's that simply then can't every vampire on this show technically become human?) But logic and reasoning aside, I also found it very interesting that still no one has mentioned the vampiric elephant in the room: the fact that Damon will begin aging rapidly like Katherine did upon taking the cure. It'd basically be like his death sentence and yet no one has even broached the subject.
Did they all just forget what happened to Katherine? Have they all been compelled to forget it? Either way, it still presents a very big problem for Damon and Elena's future together, which we already know is sadly doomed. It's just a question of how this all plays out. And given that there are only two episodes left this season, the answers are on their way. We just might not like what they have to say.
