Taylor's Already Thinking About Her Next Album

by Alex Kritselis

Believe it or not, the newly crowned Princess of Pop is already planning her next move: In a recent interview with Entertainment Tonight, Taylor Swift said her next album will be "very, very different" from the record-breaking 1989 — her first full-on pop effort. If you love 1989 as much as I do, your heart probably just sank to your feet — but I actually think Swift's decision to (once again) try something new may be for the best. When asked if she uses her downtime on tour to record new music (her 1989 World Tour starts on May 5), the "Style" singer responded:

I'm not making the next record yet. I think that's going to take a lot of thinking about what that should be, because with 1989, I love this album so much that I think it would be doing a real disservice to this album to try and copy it the next time around. I think it's going to have to be something very, very different creatively.

I completely, 100-percent agree. Trying to recreate the magic of 1989 would be foolish (not to mention impossible). I think it's really important for Swift to keep evolving and challenging herself as an artist. Sure, she'll likely make some mistakes along the way, but you know what they say: "With great risk comes great reward."

Generally speaking, the "if it ain't broke, don't fix it" approach to music-making only works for a short period of time. Swift declared in one of her 1989 voice memos that she's "still so in love with songwriting," so I suspect she wants to keep doing this whole pop star thing for a while. Happily, it looks to me like she's on the right track.

When it is eventually time for Swift to start recording a new LP, she has an interesting prospect on the horizon: collaborating with her new pal, Kanye West. Swift revealed that she hasn't been in the studio with the rapper just yet, but they have talked about it, and apparently, he has "a lot of amazing ideas." Hmm. I'm certainly glad these two have buried the hatchet, but I'm not entirely convinced they're a musical match. I guess we'll just have to wait and see what happens!
