What Will 'Avengers 3' Be About?

If you saw Avengers: Age Of Ultron, you're probably already excited for the next installment of the superhero series. And, if you paid close attention to the plot of the Marvel movies to have come before, you already have some clues as to what Avengers 3 will be about. Officially titled Avengers: Infinity War (and split into two parts), the story will culminate with the team fighting one of the biggest baddies around: Thanos.

In the Marvel universe, Thanos is a villain obsessed with finding all the Infinity Gems and joining them in the Infinity Gauntlet. According to Cinema Blend, collecting them all in this powerful golden glove would allow him to "gain the powers of a god and gain control over all time and space." Such power comes with a reputation, of course. He's more evil than your average Marvel bad guy, which is why he's going to take two movies to defeat. “Thanos is... powerful. He is so powerful, he is not someone you can just try out and punch him," Age of Ultron director Joss Whedon said. "Like he did in the comics, you want him threading through the universe and to save the big finale for the big finale."

So if you paid close attention, you'll remember that we've already seen Thanos before. He appeared in the post-credits scene of Avengers discussing his desire to take over the earth.

He's also in Guardians of the Galaxy , and in Thor: The Dark World , where he makes his search plans apparent. “One down, five to go," he says as he takes the Aether. He appears again at the end of Avengers 2 with the Infinity Gauntlet.

We've also seen some of the six Infinity Gems. According to Slash Film we've seen "Space (the Tesseract), Reality (the Aether from Thor: The Dark World), Power (the Orb from Guardians of the Galaxy), Mind (Loki’s scepter and Vision’s gem)" and are missing only Time and Soul. If he collects all six and places them in the Infinity Gauntlet, Thanos is going to be pretty hard to beat. It's likely Avengers 3 is going to be about his search, and the heroes' attempts to thwart him.

Avengers: Infinity War is going to be one of the biggest Marvel films just in terms of encompassing the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Fans are hopeful that, in addition to the Avengers, other Marvel heroes will make an appearance. It's not outside the realm of possibility, as Marvel president Kevin Feige has hinted that Avengers 3 is going to call upon the entire Marvel universe. “We’ve always had a plan since Nick Fury broke into Tony Stark’s house and told him he’s part of a bigger universe," Feige said, "Avengers: Infinity War Part 1 is the beginning of the culmination of everything that has come before."

Unfortunately, fans have to wait until May 4, 2018 to see the first Infinity War film. But, until then, I'm sure Thanos' evil mission will continue to build in the next Captain America and Thor films as the Marvel writers use Thanos as the thread connecting their universe together. Avengers 3 is going to pack quite a punch when everything finally comes together.
