'The Voice' Will Do It Live

by Kristie Rohwedder

The Voice is LIVE! We've been anticipating this moment for… weeks? Months? Eh, the amount of time is irrelevant. The only thing that matters is that we've made it this far. Carson Daly continued to be our gracious host. Cee Lo Green, Christina Aguilera, Blake Shelton, and Adam Levine continued to be our esteemed coaches. Adam Levine's beard, however, didn't make it to the live shows. Fortunately, Adam's smooth hairdo and light stubble weren't disgusting to look at. I like all of his looks, OKAY?! Tonight's performances were split up between Team Adam and Team Blake. The following were my faves:

TEAM BLAKE

Shelbie Z. singing "Fancy": Sweet, sweet Shelbie Z. got married over the break! Aww. I knew I'd like this performance even before she started singing. I am obsessed with this song. I am obsessed with Shelbie Z. The combo had unlimited potential. And, whaddya know? She sounded INCREDIBLE. I knew I could count on her. And "Fancy." "Fancy" didn't let me down.

Cole Vosbury singing "Maggie May": Let me start by saying that I like this song. However, the summer before my freshman year of college, I worked for a popular coffee chain and one of the store's CDs was Rod Stewart's greatest hits. So, I'm a tad burned out on this song. But Cole stopped me dead in my tracks. His voice was so sweet and nuanced. It also had a significant amount of grit, which prompted me to take the note "he sounds like gritty sugar." I think I meant Sugar in The Raw? Coffee on the brain, I guess? I don't know. I do know that his performance was wonderful.

TEAM ADAM

James Wolpert singing "A Case of You": This was absolutely beautiful. He played guitar while he sang, and it was such an understated yet full performance. He showcased his impressive range (I was shocked by some of the notes he hit), and Xtina called the performance "heartwarming." Crap, it was lovely.

Will Champlin singing "Secrets": He accompanied himself on the piano and it was gor. Geous. His higher register was so very pretty. The only note I took was "he sounds like a real singer." And he did. I'm not familiar with the song, so as far I was concerned, it was his song.

Tessanne Chin singing "Many Rivers Across": This was horrendous. I hated every minute of it. The two sentences preceding this one are lies. This performance was amazing. The whole thing was dumb and unfair. Xtina described Tessanne's vocals as "gorgeous" and "soaring," and she wasn't wrong. Adam called Tessanne's talent "mind-boggling," and he also wasn't wrong. Can we just watch her and Matthew Schuler duke it out for the title already?

SPARKLY HIGHLIGHT OF THE NIGHT

Cee Lo's glittery hoodie almost took the prize, but I can't deny the majesty that was Xtina in those bedazzled tights during the opening performance.

NON-SPARKLY HIGHLIGHT OF THE NIGHT

Carson had to make it up to the Sprint Skybox before a commercial break ended, and apparently, he sprinted (I couldn't help that one) up there. We could hear Blake laughing at Carson from his coaching chair. I love live television.

CHER HIGHLIGHT OF THE NIGHT

Nope. Cher won't be at the live shows. Picture me sighing and stomping around like an exasperated teen.
