'The Flash' Metahumans Are Set Free

by Rachel Paige

Tuesday's penultimate episode of The Flash, "Rogue Air," certainly lived up to its name. It saw the return of all our favorite metahumans, and then the show did something crazy — it set all the metahumans free. This was all part of Wells' plan to basically distract Barry Allen and everyone else at S.T.A.R. Labs so he could make the particle accelerator operational again. He needs its energy, force, and an added burst of speed to make it back to the future, and using metahumans is a perfect distraction. It's a good thing Barry, Cisco, and Caitlin manage to foil his plan before it goes into action.

However it's a bad thing that they then team up with Captain Cold, who's made his triumphant return to Central City. At least now they'll remember in the future that teaming up with Snart is a very bad idea.

In trying to save the metahumans from whatever Wells is planning, Barry suggests transporting all of them to a safer location — Lian Yu. OK, maybe not the best idea, but it's still an idea. At least then the metahumans will be far away from everyone else, and can't cause too much trouble, right? Joe goes through the steps to get a them a secure transport, so that they can get to an aircraft and fly to the island. However, that's when everything goes wrong. Just because they could save the metahumans from Wells, doesn't mean they can save them from Captain Cold.

Here's here to free all the metahumans, and he succeeds. So all the time and energy Barry put into capturing them earlier in the season has all been for naught. In barely even a blink of an eye, they're all set free. However, I think it's a safe bet that we'll see them all back again next season. The only reason is to set them free is to get them all back, right?

So whatever happens in the Flash season finale, have faith that the metahumans will be back, one way or another. I'm really excited about it, but I doubt Barry feels the same way.
