Tsarnaev's Mother Responds To His Death Sentence

When her son was found guilty on all 30 charges for his role in the 2013 Boston Marathon bombings, Boston bomber Dzhokhar Tsarnaev's mother issued an angry rant saying that the U.S. will pay for what it's done. Now that he's been sentenced to the death penalty, she's spoken out once again. According to the website Vocativ, Dzhokhar Tsarnaev's mother Zubeidat Tsarnaeva allegedly said America will burn in "eternal and terrifying flames" in messages sent to a supporter after the jury's decision on Friday. Dzhokhar's father has also commented on the sentence, but his reaction was far less extreme.

On Sunday, Zubeidat reportedly sent a supporter a series of angry WhatsApp messages in response to Dzhokhar's death sentence, which were first posted in Russian on the social media site VKontakte and later obtained and translated by Vocativ. The alleged messages, sent to supporter Zarina Kasenova, read:

They think that they are killing us and they celebrate this, but we are the ones who will rejoice when Allah grants us the chance to behold them in the flames of an eternal and terrifying fire, an otherworldly flame.

Vocativ contacted Kasenova, who explained that the site VKontakte was being used as a forum for supporters with doubts about the case, but was by no means a "shrine to Dzhokhar." She and the others don't believe that he is guilty and have helped raise money for his defense.

Dzhokhar's father, Anzor Tsarnaev, who is divorced from Zubeidat, has also responded to his son's sentence, but with a starkly different tone. He told ABC News on Friday:

What a parent can feel at such moment? It is hard. Hope exists always. We had hope and still do.

He revealed that the family plans to appeal, saying, "We will fight until the end."

Anzor's response is vastly different from Zubeidat's impassioned warnings and messages brimming with violent imagery. In April, after the jury convicted Dzhokhar on all counts, she allegedly sent a similarly virulent rant to Vocativ, which was mostly in all caps (translated by Vocativ):

MY SONS ARE INNOCENT, AS INNOCENT AS ALL THOSE WHO ARE BEING KILLED BY YOUR COUNTRY. TODAY THEY ARE KILLING MUSLIMS, AND TOMORROW WILL COME YOUR TURN AND HE, WHO DOUBTS THIS IS DEEPLY MISTAKEN!!!!! HOW CAN A MOTHER FEEL WHOSE SON IS IN THE CLAWS OF A PREDATOR PREPARING TO TEAR HIM TO PIECES LIKE MEAT ??? THEY WILL PAY FOR MY SONS AND THE SONS OF ISLAM, PERMANENTLY!!! THE TEARS OF THEIR MOTHERS WILL BE FUEL FOR THEM IN HELL!

On Friday, the federal jury sentenced Dzhokhar to death for his role in killing four people and injuring more than 200.
