Davis Goes From Filibuster to Non-Fiction

by Lara Southern

Wendy Davis's 11-hour filibuster of Rick Perry’s Texas Senate Bill 5, which brought into effect vast new regulations on abortion rights within the state, thrust the Texas legislator into the political limelight, garnering national attention and support for her efforts. She has since announced her intention to run in the 2014 gubernatorial election — and on Thursday, that she will be publishing a memoir with Blue Rider Press, an imprint of Penguin Random House.

Slated for release in the Fall of 2014, the memoir will cover both her career and personal life, including her account of becoming a single parent before the age of 21. In a statement released Thursday, Davis said:

Everyone deserves to have a say in their future. I hope telling the story of how I went from being a single mom to serving in the Texas State Senate to running for Governor will remind others that with the right leadership in government, where you start has nothing to do with how far you go.
