Proof: Solange Is The Queen Of Monochromatic Looks

by Charmaine Simmons

People always look at me like I am crazy when I say that I prefer Solange over Beyoncé. Don't get me wrong: I am a part of the BeyHive just like majority of the world, but there is just something about Solange that makes me admire her a little more (perhaps it's something to do with Solange's monochromatic style).

Solange was arguably always known as "just Beyoncé's little sister" until she started making a name for herself in the music and fashion industries. From having her own record label, Saint Records, to being the creative director of PUMA, Solange is the definition of a multi-talented woman.

One of the most famous things she is known for, however, is her style. Myself and others across the world view Solange as a style icon. She is known to take fashion risks and to clash patterns and prints together in one look. Throughout her fashion revelation, though, Solange has developed this monochromatic trend in which she celebrates and revamps the "matchy-matchy" look. While most fashionistas avoid being matchy-matchy, Solange does it quite often and does it very well.

Everyone is inspired by Solange's monochromatic looks, including Khaleesi from Game of Thrones , who recently wore an all-white ensemble very similar to Solange's wedding dress. I am just happy that I am not the only one who dreams of raiding Solange's closet (I have no shame). Nevertheless, here are seven of Solange's best monochromatic looks out of all of her effortless matchy-matchy moments.

While most people were not fans of this look, I was for several reasons. This look is what I would call a fashion risk and I truly appreciate Solange for taking it. Also, I admire how she wore an all-red look and paired it with red lipstick to boot.

2. Pink Tailored Suit

Solange took menswear to another level with this number. This tailored all-pink suit is flawless and I love the fun clutch that she added to the ensemble.

3. Mellow Yellow

Solange is the reason why I truly believe Pantone chose the wrong color of the year. This entire look is so fun yet so effortless.

4. Crème De La Crème

Solange is definitely the "cream of the cream" with this look. The various textures and irregular hem cuts on the top and skirt make this look even more special. Let's not forget about the shoes...

5. Black Is The New Black

Sorry, but orange is definitely not the new black. Nothing is more chic and simple than an all-black ensemble. Solange's bedazzled pantsuit adds a little more flavor to such a classic color.

6. Orange With A Splash Of Blue

Yet again, Solange took a huge fashion risk with this one. Gratefully, this entire look is a complete winner in my book. An orange top and slim pants paired with a cobalt blue coat and fringe clutch = perfection. Finishing the look with baby pink heels and lipstick added a fun, risqué touch.

7. Mean And Green

I have never been a huge fun of green but Solange is making me reconsider. The top is so long, relaxed, and looks like it just blows in the wind when she twirls (if she ever did). Plus, the white buttons on the top add a great detail to the simple green look that is highly appreciated, at least by me.
