Shonda Rhimes Is Publishing Her First Book

by Caitlin White

If you reserve Thursdays for Grey's Anatomy, Scandal, and How to Get Away With Murder I hope you are sitting down because Simin & Schuster just announced Shonda Rhimes' first book Year of Yes. As the trailblazing TV showrunner told Dartmouth alumni magazine, her alma mater, earlier this year, Rhimes' New Year's resolution starting January 2014 was to say "yes" to everything that scares her and all "unexpected invitations" that come her way. Now, after her resolution wrapped up, she's publishing a book detailing her year of yeses. It's set to release November 2015.

As Rhimes said in Simon & Schuster's press release:

Saying yes for an entire year turned out to be one of the most amazing decisions I have ever made. It was also a little insane, a lot terrifying and sometimes wildly embarrassing. So this is not a story I ever planned to share with anyone. However, once Simon & Schuster asked me, I had no choice — what else could I say but yes?

Now I'm just upset with myself that I didn't ask to be cast as an ambitious and maybe murderous law student last year for How to Get Away With Murder.

If you don't already know who Rhimes is, I don't even understand you, but let's just say this: She's currently one of the most important people working in show biz right now. She makes casting women and diverse actors and actresses a priority, putting them front and center on television like no other showrunner today. ShondaLand owns ABC's Thursday night line-up with Grey's and Scandal, which she created, and HTGAWM, for which she's the executive producer — unofficially known as #TGIT, because who needs Friday when your Thursday night is that stacked. She also created the Grey's spin-off Private Practice. Just last month, ABC announced her new show The Catch , about a female forensic accountant battling fraud, would get a series order.

Oh, and according to The Mindy Project, she's also the Dartmouth Beer Pong Champion.

You have zero reasons not to already be waiting in line for this book.
