'Tangled' Is Headed to TV
In the wise words of Taylor Swift, "Drop everything now." Following news that Disney Cruises will feature a Tangled musical, there is also going to be an animated Tangled TV series. Are you freaking out too? There's good news and bad news. Unfortunately, we won't get to see what will most likely be the best Disney Channel show ever until it premieres in 2017. (That seems like ages away!)
However, the very, very (very!) good news is that both Mandy Moore and Zachary Levi will be reprising their roles as Rapunzel and Eugene (aka Flynn Rider), respectively. Composer Alan Menken and lyricist Glenn Slater are also attached to the project, which is exciting because the Tangled soundtrack is pretty amazing. (Also, Menken composed scores for The Little Mermaid, Beauty and the Beast, Aladdin and many, many others, so he's basically a legend.) More important details: Tangled the TV show will take place between the original film, and the events of the 2012 short film "Tangled Ever After."
According to Variety:
"The series follows the long-locked Rapunzel (Moore), as she acquaints herself with her parents, her kingdom and the people of Corona, and realizes there is much more she needs to learn before she can truly accept her royal destiny, causing her to put her crown and put her marriage on hold to seek out epic adventures, much to the dismay of her father, the King. Accompanying Rapunzel on her journey will be the charming bandit Eugene (Levi); the plucky chameleon sidekick, Pascal; the no-nonsense horse, Maximus; the Snuggly Duckling Pub Thugs; and newcomer Cassandra, a tough-as-nails handmaiden, who becomes Rapunzel’s confidant."
I get that all of this good news is a bit overwhelming, but that doesn't mean we shouldn't pay homage to the movie that started it all. On that note, here are seven reasons I am so, so stoked for the Tangled TV show.
1. Mandy Moore Will Be Back in Our Lives
Mandy Moore, I miss you! The next best thing to her releasing a new album is her reprising her role as a Disney princess.
2. So Will Pascal
Arguably one of the best Disney sidekicks. (Sorry, Abu.)
3. Flynn and Maximus' Bromance
They squabble like siblings and I love it.
4. Girl Power
The TV show will introduce Cassandra, a "tough-as-nails handmaiden." I love that Rapunzel is getting a fellow badass female as a BFF.
5. New Disney Tunes
My neighbors are probably tired of hearing me croon "A Whole New World" anyway. Everyone wins.
6. It'll Be Like One Long Disney Movie
Each week, we'll get another dose of Tangled. This makes me ecstatic.
7. This Opens So Many Doors
If the Tangled TV is successful, who knows which other movies will get the same treatment?
