Pearl's Beauty Editorial For Wilhelmina Is Fierce

by Marc Cuenco

She might have lost out on the crown, but there's no denying that drag queen Pearl won viewers' hearts the second she sashayed down the runway. Further proving her star power beyond Ru Paul's Drag Race, Season 7 runner-up Pearl transforms into 18 Hollywood characters for a fashion and beauty shoot for Wilhelmina Artists, and the results are quite stunning. Or perhaps I should say, fabulously "Flazéda."

The ambitious project, titled "The Transformation of Pearl," was a collaborative effort between the renowned fashion agency's photographers, stylists, and makeup artists. The 18 portraits feature the 23-year-old performer (a.k.a. Matt James) in various high fashion editorial shots, each one styled to represent a different type of Hollywood character or star from different eras. In one photo, Pearl portrays a glamorous astronaut, then morphs into a retro housewife, and then a 1980's-era party girl in the next. The Brooklyn-born drag queen even channels a handful of iconic celebrity beauties, including Farrah Fawcett, Jane Fonda as Barbarella, and even the one and only Cher.

In the intro to "The Transformation of Pearl," the Wilhelmina collective wrote: "We wanted to celebrate the art of makeup, hair styling, fashion styling and photography. What better way to do it than through the art of drag."

You go, Pearl!
