Cher Is The New Face Of Marc Jacobs

by May Sofi

Fashion brands are continuing what Céline (and others) started with their Spring likes of 80-year-old Joan Didion in their Spring 2015 campaign. Since then, many other brands have tapped older iconic women, like Joni Mitchell for Yves Saint Laurent and Iris Apfel for Kate Spade. Now, Cher is the new face of Marc Jacobs, further proving that older women are totally the new It-girls.

The designer took to Instagram on Wednesday to announce the exciting news, sharing the first glorious image of the pop icon, captioned, "The amazing and beautiful CHER!"

And let me tell you, the 69 year-old has never looked better. The original queen of pop dons a black floor-length pleated skirt with mesh cutouts and beading with a structured cropped jacket and black leather gloves in the image. The look is complete with big teased hair, and subtle makeup making for a cool and edgy rock & roll style. She looks totally in her element and I love that Jacobs recognized that in conceptualizing this shoot.

Apparently, the American designer has been planning this for a while. According to The Telegraph, he showed up to the Met Gala earlier this month with none other than Cher on his arm in one of his sparkly creations — perhaps that served as a clue?

Either way, this is amazing news, and I can't wait to see the rest of the photos from the campaign.
