One of the many great things I love about The Vampire Diaries is its ability to make us root for even the evilest of characters. Take Klaus, for example. By all accounts, we should hate him for all the innocent lives he's ruined. And, yet, he was deemed so likable that he was given his very own spin off series. It just goes to show how great the writing and character development is on this series. Despite all of their heinous deeds, we can't help but fall in love with even the most villainous of TVD characters, and that includes Elena's doppelgänger Katherine Pierce. I mean, how could you not immediately fall head over heels for this sassy vamp? Don't get me wrong, Elena is great and all, but being too good can sometimes get a bit much. Katherine had a knack for creating a bit of chaos in the best way possible.
In fact, I'd go so far as to say that there were times when Katherine was the true star of the show. She may have been awful to her core and completely self-centered, but she was also a force to be reckoned with and made every visit to Mystic Falls a memorable experience. But, hey, you don't just have to take my word for it. Here's definitive proof that Katherine was the most compelling character on TVD.
1. When She Was The Life Of The Party
Which was basically all the time. No one liked to have fun more than this girl.
2. When She Was Team Elijah
Katherine had a tendency for making extremely attractive vampire hunks fall in love with her, but there was something about her romance with Elijah that I found particularly alluring. Even this independent vampire couldn't help but swoon over that suit.
3. When She Let Her Expressions Do The Talking
Words can be so overrated.
4. When She Handled Her Rapid Aging With Grace & Poise
Well, with as much grace and poise as could be expected, anyway.
5. When Her Fashion Was On Fleek
No matter the century, this lady vamp always knew how to look fabulous.
6. When She Was A Straight Up Badass
Her techniques might not have been pretty, but there's no denying that Katherine got. things. done. Plain and simple.
7. When Her Retorts Were Just As Clever As Damon's
Subtlety was never her strong suit. (And I loved her for it.)
8. When She Was Fiercely Confident
Impressive, if not slightly gruesome.
9. When She Was A Master Of Disguise
Elena or Katherine? Sometimes you just could never be sure.
10. When She Reminded Us That Sharing Can Sometimes Be Overrated
Especially in regard to the Salvatore brothers. Preach, girl!
11. When She Reveled In Her Villainous Ways
And made us all want to embrace our inner dark side.
We love you, Katherine. Mystic Falls just isn't the same without you.
