7 Emmy-Worthy 'SNL' Sketches From Women Hosts
Emmy nomination season is in full swing, and despite great hosting performances by women, the Emmy contenders Saturday Night Live submitted for Outstanding Guest Actor/Actress in a Comedy Series are all men. Only seven episodes of the 21-week season were hosted by women (which is an issue in itself), but they all did a fantastic job. What's worse is that the ladies left off the list include Taraji P. Henson, and Cookie would not stand for this.
The Wrap reports that, "the men up for consideration include: Louis C.K., Jim Carrey, Bill Hader, Woody Harrelson, Kevin Hart, Chris Hemsworth, Dwayne 'The Rock' Johnson, Chris Rock and J.K. Simmons." Meanwhile, Hollywood starlets and female comedy superstars alike killed it on SNL. They took risks, played against type, and made fun of themselves in the best way possible. Remember when Cookie Lyon met Cookie Monster? It's as if the folks at SNL literally forgot about the existence of Henson, Amy Adams, Dakota Johnson, Cameron Diaz, Scarlett Johansson, Reese Witherspoon, and Sarah Silverman — which is a hard thing to do.
Here are sketches from each of these ladies' respective episodes to prove that they should have been submitted for Emmy consideration too:
1. Sarah Silverman's Joan Rivers Tribute
It's a pitch-perfect impression and a lovely tribute from one comedian to another.
2. Cameron Diaz is a Baller
She raps!
3. Amy Adams Has a Secret
Adams shows off her Oscar-nominated singing and acting chops in this super bizarre sketch. It's a weird premise, but she pulls it off.
4. Dakota Johnson Can't Even
She's trying to can, but she literally can't.
5. Taraji P. Henson Sings
Cookie Lyon herself sings a gospel-inspired song in this epic monologue. She is so adorable and excited, I just want to give her all the awards.
6. Scarlett Johansson's Perfect Parody
"Does Marvel not know how to make a girl superhero movie? Marvel gets women." This sketch was so perfect that some fans are saying it foreshadowed the Supergirl trailer.
7. Reese Witherspoon is the Cat's Pajamas
Witherspoon's character work is on point — and so is the sexual tension with Kate McKinnon.
Seriously, folks. Give these women an award already.
