Prom Dress Designer Made This BET Awards Gown

by Lindsey Rose Black

Remember the story about the incredible teen that totally shut down bullies by designing her own gorgeous prom dress? Well, 18-year-old Kyemhah McEntyre's designs have officially moved from prom floor to red carpet. Kyemhah McEntyre was asked to design Naturi Naughton's BET Awards dress, according to PopSugar. Total non-shocker: it's absolutely gorgeous.

McEntyre's stunning and intricately designed African-influence red prom dress inspired Naughton to reach out to her. On accepting the celeb's request, McEntyre shared, "[Naughton] explained to me that she wanted to connect with her African roots ... I explained to her that my prom dress was my first design ever and that her design would be my second. … She wanted to shed light on young people from her community [East Orange, New Jersey] and that she did. I enlisted a local seamstress by the name of Markell Mockabee, who brought my design to life." Can we stop and talk courage?

Naughton's dress may have been McEntyre's first red carpet design, but it exuded the talent of a seasoned pro. She created a form-fitting mermaid cut gown with an elaborate graphic print similar to the one on her prom dress. Naughton looked completely stunning and thrilled, and I'm willing to bet McEntyre had a pretty big smile on her face last night, too.

Fingers cross she unveils a line someday soon!
