Kim K Opens Up About Paris Hilton Friendship
Nothing brings friends closer together faster than shared experiences — particularly when those experiences are challenging, embarrassing, and cause stress and anxiety. But, sadly, that wasn't the case for Kim Kardashian and Paris Hilton after both celebs had their sex tapes leaked just a few years apart from one another and found themselves embroiled in scandal and petty gossip. In a telling new interview with Rolling Stone magazine, Kardashian revealed that she expected Hilton to reach out to her when her sex tape with Ray J was leaked in 2007 — after all, who better to understand what she was going through than her former BFF, whose own tape with ex-boyfriend Rick Salomon, 1 Night in Paris, was released without her consent in 2004? No word yet on how long the 34-year-old reality star waited by the phone for a call from Hilton, but the socialite didn't come through for her.
To be fair, Kardashian and Hilton seemed to have a weird boss/slave relationship from the get-go. When Hilton was hopping from one club to another in New York City in the early '00s, enjoying her notoriety and being photographed enough to parlay her fame into a reality show called The Simple Life, Kardashian was her lowly assistant and sort-of friend. Remember that time Hilton joked that she "created" Kardashian? Yeah, not a very friendly thing to say.
It's not surprising then to hear that Hilton wasn't about to let go of the grudge she was holding against Kardashian when their "friendship" fell apart in order to offer some support after the Great Sex Tape Leak of 2007. Here's what Kardashian had to say about how she thinks Hilton felt when her sex tape came out and what she expected from her former friend at the time:
I don't think she was that happy. We didn't really talk about it. I probably would have thought, "Oh my gosh, let me give her advice," but we had no communication. But our friendship had fizzled before that.
Fair enough, I guess. Maybe Hilton didn't want to associate with Kardashian at the time, for fear that it would just jog people's memories and make them think, oh yeah, she's the other wild young celeb who has a sex tape.
The way Kardashian puts it, it doesn't seem like the two ladies ever really had all that much in common anyway — aside from the fact that she prefers to go commando, as well (holy, TMI). She, unlike Hilton, knows the secret to not getting caught on camera with her ladybits hanging out:
I rarely wear underwear, but that never happened to me. I was never drinking... I think that saved me a lot.
As for her legendary sex tape, Kardashian revealed that she knows who leaked it, but that she's under strict orders not to talk — and has very little to say about it at this point because it's all water under the bridge as far as she's concerned:
We're in major confidentiality, so I can't talk about it. I don't really think about it. I thought about it for a long time. But when I get over something, I get over it.
Kind of like her friendship with Hilton, who had a chance to make amends with Kardashian when the two found themselves in the unusual position of both knowing what it's like to have their sex lives suddenly go viral. Their friendship obviously wasn't top priority for Hilton back then, and I wouldn't hold my breath on Hilton being named godmother to Kardashian and Kanye West's second child anytime soon (though that would be awesome).
