Will Ellie Goulding Sing The Next Bond Theme Song?
When it comes to legendary movie theme songs, the James Band franchise probably has some of the most amazing and memorable ones ever. Most recently, Adele killed it with 2012's eponymous "Skyfall," which dominated both the charts and the airwaves, plus cast the perfect mood over the film. And now that we're getting closer to the release of the next Bond film, Spectre , we've all started wondering which artist will get the honor of performing the new theme song. Speculation has surrounded singer Sam Smith, but Smith himself not only brushed off the suggestion, but also claimed that his fellow British chanteuse Ellie Goulding will take the reigns for Spectre , and seriously, nothing would make me happier.
It was during an interview with UK radio station Capital FM on July 3 — one which has since been deleted from the station's online archive — that Smith claimed that he had no idea how he'd become tied to the project and had no plans to get involved with Spectre.
"People seem to think I’m doing it but I have no idea what’s going on. I’m being deadly serious. I think I would know by now," he said.
And then the clincher: "I heard Ellie Goulding was going to do it."
Yes, please! I've loved Goulding for years and frankly, I think she'd be perfect for the new Bond flick. Need convincing? Here's why she'd be a great choice for Spectre :
She's Got Incredible Range
Goulding might not be your typical belter, but she sure has range. She can hit some amazing highs and lows and has impeccable tone, so she'd surely be able to hit the big notes the Bond song will likely include. Don't sell her short — Goulding is an insane singer.
She Can Glam It Up Like Nobody's Business
The Bond films are very glamorous, classy, and high society, and Goulding knows how to dress to the nines when the situation calls for it. I can just see her in some insane sparkly number at the premiere, or performing the song on the Grammys or something, can't you?
She's British
I mean, that's not a prerequisite or anything, I don't think, but the Bond franchise is British and so it's nice to see a British artist taking part in it. There's also the fact that Goulding is one of the best talents to come out of Britain in recent history, making her an even better candidate for the job.
She's An Unexpected Choice
Most people would probably expect someone like Sam Smith, an obvious soul singer, to be handed the Bond reigns, which is one reason Goulding would make such a refreshingly unique choice. She'd do just as good of a job, but she'd put a different spin on the theme song than your typical Big Voices.
She's Got A Connection With Movies
Goulding has already had her songs featured on several film soundtracks, from Divergent to Fifty Shades of Grey. She's no stranger to Hollywood, so it'd be well-tread territory for her to be a part of, even if Bond is bigger than anything she's done before. I know she's up to the challenge.
