Kate Mara Looks Fantastic On 'Flare' Mag Cover

by Marc Cuenco

You would never guess it from her gorgeous red carpet looks, but Kate Mara told Flare magazine she's a total tomboy, especially when it comes to her personal style. The 32-year-old actress, who stars as Sue Storm/The Invisible Woman in the Fantastic Four reboot this summer, told the magazine that she leaves fashion behind when she's on her own time. Mara even shared her affinity for a classic pair of Chucks.

“Honestly, unless I have a meeting, I’m usually in some sort of sweatpants and Converse," Mara said. "I’m all about comfort." However, when the occasion calls for something a bit more glamorous, the actress revealed that she opts for clothes that have an androgynous flair. "But if I have things to go to that require me to be social, I tend to do that mix of masculine meets feminine," she added. "I like the marriage of the two.”

The actress stuns on the August cover of Flare in a floaty Valentino gown with intricate floral details. Her auburn hair is styled into a short bob, which was a precursor to the pixie cut that Mara debuted last month. With the help of her friend and stylist Johnny Wujek, Mara wears an assortment of floral ensembles inside the magazine, which called her "Marvel's Smartest New Superhero."

Yet even though she grew up in a well-known household (her great-grandfathers founded the Pittsburgh Steelers and the New York Giants), it took awhile for Mara to come out of her shell. It wasn't until she started acting, like her younger sister Rooney, when she gained more confidence.

"I was shy in my own skin, and when I was playing other people, I felt more confident,” she said. Check out Kate Mara on the cover of Flare below:
