Cuddly Sweatshirts, Winter Whites, and November Manicures: What I'm Thankful For Today

Happy Thanksgiving, peeps and vegan peeps! Today is about so much more than stealing your mother-in-law's recipe for the perfect cranberry sauce or avoiding Great Uncle Ed's lazy eye. It's about being grateful for the little things that make Mondays so much more bearable and get us through the winter without going crazy. You know: makeup. Fashion. The perfect cat-eye. And there's no shame in taking a moment to be thankful for all the shallow stuff.

Alcohol-free Toners

People, I am now a toner user. For years, I associated toners with that super-drying alcoholic blue stuff that was supposed to zap every trace of oil and moisture from our adolescent faces, but I've discovered that toners don't have to be drying — some are actually designed to add moisture and other nutrients.

I'm loving this Aster & Bay Brightening Toner that revives skin with licorice root and sea kelp, as well as this Cecilia Wong Skincare Rose Serum Spray that both hydrates and plumps up skin with rose oil and hyaluronic acid.

Lady Gaga's "Donatella" single

It's just really catchy. And sassy. And there's something about the Gaga/Donatella BFF-ship that's weirdly adorable.

Honorable mention: Donatella's phenomenally insane but amazing safety-pinned bellbottom/blazer combo.

My birthday gift from Sephora

Thank you for remembering that my birthday is next month, Sephora! I'm going to file this under "cute customer service" and not "computers are watching me and my spending habits 365 days a year." I will also absolutely be applying that highlighter before Thanksgiving dinner. My ultimate goal today is to glow more than the turkey.

The rise of the haute sweatshirt

I want to be comfortable forever while still proving to the world that I have a personality. Sassy sweatshirts like this Baudelaire gem let me do both. Die, crisp collars, die!

National Book Award winners

Finally, something to do besides refresh Instagram! What? Books are totally a beauty product, designed to enhance, contour, and exfoliate your brain.

Emma Roberts' AMA Dress

Thank you, Emma, for taking the plunge and declaring once and for all that silhouettes don't need to be skintight to be striking, shimmery, and sexy. (I have more S-adjectives, don't even test me: sensuous, starlit, serpentine...)

My weird horsetail tea

It's going to make my skin, hair, nails, bones, and personality healthy and strong, Mom!

Winter whites

Stop feeling ashamed that you're "wearing white after Labor Day" and start referring to your "winter whites," as in, "Heavens, I need to take my winter whites to the dry cleaners." It's so Aspen, Colorado.

Lipstick on coffee cups

C'mon, it's adorable! Bonus points if the liquid inside the cup is a peppermint mocha... or hot buttered rum.

Hats everywhere

Stocking caps! Fur hoods! Babies in snuggly berets! Puppies and kittens forced into hats by their merciless owners! Everyone looks cute and toasty in a hat, and no one will ever know you skipped a shampooing.

Thanksgiving Eye Makeup

Think gold flecks, burnt orange and toasty brown shadows, a caramelized sugar glow. Mmm... hungry yet?

My holiday manicure

There are billions of crazy holiday manicures out there, but I'm loving my simple one, in shiny oxblood (Essie's "Wicked"). I haven't gotten a professional manicure in forever, and this was the perfect $12 activity for a snowy Monday night, zoning out in the salon chair and dreaming of cranberry sauce.
