Leona Lewis' New Song Will Empower You

by Alex Kritselis

This is not a drill: Leona Lewis' new single, "Thunder," will make you feel like you can take on the world. I'm serious! The uplifting track is the second official offering (the first being "Fire Under My Feet") from the "Bleeding Love" hit-maker's forthcoming new album, I Am (due out Sept. 11), and you don't want to miss it. Thematically, Leona Lewis' "Thunder" lyrics actually have quite a bit in common with the "Fire Under My Feet" lyrics: both songs describe the joy that comes from finally breaking free from something (or someone) that's holding you back. Hmm...

Interestingly enough, Lewis left her longtime record label, Syco, in June 2014. Soon after, she signed a new deal with Island Records. Coincidence? I think not. (But, of course, I'm just speculating.)

On "Thunder's" opening verse and pre-chorus, Lewis sings:

First it was heaven

Everything was roses and fire

You and I were golden

Now it's armageddon

And I woke up like a fighter

Putting up a legion

You were rising like a star

Reigning like a king

While I was waiting in the wings

Her gorgeous voice shines on the tune's soaring chorus:

But I won't wait any longer

When you left me down, I got stronger

If you want to wait for lightning

I'm on the horizon

But I'm coming back with the thunder

Well, I'm coming back with the thunder

Well, I'm coming back with the thunder

An iTunes release date for "Thunder" has not yet been announced. (In the meantime, you can enjoy the song on the singer's official YouTube channel above.) I don't know about you, but I can't wait to hear more new music from Lewis.
