These 'Parent Trap' Enemies Are Real-Life BFFs

by Sofia Barrett-Ibarria

Your inner child will be blown away. Anyone who remembers watching Disney's The Parent Trap as a kid (or even as an adult because this movie is a true classic) knows that Lindsay Lohan starred as identical twins who were separated-at-birth, Hallie and Annie. However, it's important to note that, as any true Parent Trap fan would recall, the best and most underrated part of the movie is Elaine Hendrix's role as the Cruelle Deville-esque, quintessential '90s ice queen Meredith Blake, aka the much younger woman who swoops in on Hallie and Annie's father in the hopes of being his future lady love. Aside from her glorious, late '90s fashion splendor, what makes her presence in the movie as the would-be evil stepmother so great is the way she contrasts with the twins' father's maternal, lovable housekeeper Chessy, played by Lisa Ann Walter. Meredith and Chessy's passive aggressive Parent Trap banter makes for some tense on screen interactions, but according to Hendrix, the two actresses are actually real-life best friends. "Lisa Ann Walter[...] is still one of my best girlfriends in the whole wide world," Hendrix told HuffPost Live Wednesday, "I got some great friendships out of that [film]."

Even though they're only onscreen enemies, the fact that these two are actually friends is still hard to believe when you rewatch the movie. Here are all the moments and reasons this news is truly mind blowing:

In The Movie, Chessy Was The Biggest Sweetheart Of All Time:

She rocked that denim button-up like nobody's business.

She Really Cared About Hallie:

As if she were her own daughter.

Meredith, However...

Well, Meredith was not a very nice person.

She Was Not There To Make Friends:

"No new friends," - Drake (and Meredith Blake).

Unlike Chessy, She Didn't Care For Hallie. Or Annie. Or Anyone. At All.

Yikes.

Direct Quote: "Here's what's going on, buddy: the day we get married is the day I ship those brats off to Switzerland, get the picture?"

Um, rude.

When Richard, Meredith's Assistant, Calls Her "Ice Woman":

"Proud of it, babe."

Another Direct Quote: "One more trick from you two, and I promise I'll make your lives miserable from the day I say 'I do.' Got it?"

"Got it, Cruella."

Aaaand Another: "First change I make is to send that two-faced little brat off to boarding school in Timbuktu."

So pretty, yet so mean.

In Summation, Chessy Is An Angel:

*tear*

And Meredith Is Basically The Worst:

And also the best, but mostly the worst.

How Is This Real-Life Friendship Possible?

It is truly one of life's great mysteries.
