The 'Mockingjay — Part 2' Trailer Is Terrifying

by Aramide Tinubu

The Hunger Games is such an important franchise because it comments on greed, wealth, and rapid consumerism in society at the expense of the extremely disadvantaged. Though the books and the films are geared towards children and teenagers, they are certainly not for the faint of heart. And if you've seen the new full trailer for the Hunger Games final movie, you know that trend is not letting up any time soon. But lest you forgot just how powerful this universe can be, let me remind you that Mockingjay — Part 1 ended with Peeta's piercing screams shortly after he tried to choke the life out of Katniss. It was both utterly terrifying and devastating to witness. After watching Katniss and Peeta hunt their fellow tributes in both The Hunger Games and Catching Fire, I've seen more terrifying things during this franchise than I care to remember. From tracker jackers to mutated monkeys, there seems to be an endless supply of horrifying things that Katniss has had to encounter. Let's not forget the sadistic violence of the district tributes killing each other for both sport and survival, Katniss has barely escaped with her sanity. It only makes sense that the final film is not only powerful, but even a little scary.

Unfortunately, Katniss and the citizens of Panem are in for a tough road ahead as they gear up for their war against President Snow and his minions in the Capitol. From the looks of the Mockingjay — Part 2 trailer, things are about to get way more menacing. Here are the 11 scariest moments — and be wary. You might need a buddy to get through this.

1. The Capitol's Armed Guards

It's something extremely terrifying about the fact that the guards' faces are covered. The fact that we can't see them is bone chilling.

2. This Fiery Inferno

If Katniss had not thought to fire her arrow before she and her team marched forward, they would have been engulfed in flames. Seeing things as they could have been is almost as horrifying as if they'd actually happened.

3. This Map of Booby-Traps

The fact that President Snow filled the city streets with booby-traps, as if it was some sort of live-action video game, proves that he sees no value in human life. Truly gut-wrenching stuff.

4. This Black Molten Goo

I have no idea what this stuff is made of, or what it might do to your body if it touches you, but I certainly wouldn't want to be in its path to find out.

5. This Building Explosion

I've always thought there was something so terrible about watching a building crumble. If something that majestic can be ripped down in seconds, then what does it mean for human beings?

6. This Blast That Nearly Killed Katniss and Gale

Katniss has encountered death more times than I can even begin to consider. Still, it doesn't stop me from covering my eyes every time she narrowly escapes.

7. This Excessive Gunfire

I've never been a fan of guns, especially when they are used excessively and are meant to massacre any person or thing that gets caught in the crossfire. So yeah, this is scary.

8. When This Car Flipped Over

I wish I could believe no one was in this vehicle when it flipped, but this is The Hunger Games, so I'm not holding my breath.

9. A Crumbling Floor

I've always thought the idea of quicksand was horrendous, but a floor crumbling beneath your feet is a whole new level of terror. Not only do you have to run for your life, but you also have to deal with chunks of concrete pelting you in the back. Yikes.

10. This Monster

Whatever this is, I was not expecting it. This creature looks like something out of Harry Potter or Lord of the Rings. Clearly, President Snow has some new tricks up his sleeve.

11. This Cat Lady

I know that the citizens of the Capitol love their extravagant makeup and facial enhancements, but this is taking it way too far. Sorry, Cat Lady.
