An All Oscar Winners 'DWTS'? We're Intrigued...

by Lia Beck

The most recent season of Dancing With The Stars just wrapped up last week, so of course the show is already looking for its cast for the next time around and it seems DWTS has their eye on Renee Zellweger. And not only that, apparently they're interested in doing a whole season of just Oscar winners. I don't know, you guys. DWTS might have their sights set a little too high. Sure, this is a show that's managed to be successful despite its ridiculous sounding title and, yes, they've somehow been able to fit 17 seasons into eight years which seems mathematically impossible, but an entire season of Oscar winners with Zellweger front and center? I'm not so sure.

And it sounds like I'm not the only one. Gossip Cop is reporting that the story is definitely false, while sites like Radar Online are claiming that "production sources" have leaked the information about DWTS producers really going after Zellweger. One source supposedly said,

[Producers] keep raising the amount of money they are willing to give her in the hopes that she’ll say yes, and the theory is that if they can get her to sign on, then it would attract some other really prominent Oscar winning stars — who wouldn’t normally do reality TV — to fall in step.

Regardless of whether the Zellweger rumors are true or not, it would make sense for DWTS to want an all Oscar winners season. Their ratings have been dropping consistently and Academy Award winners would definitely bring on the viewers. The news also can help but make us ponder which Oscar winners we'd like to see dancing.

Here's some stars that would be part of the best possible scenario:

George Clooney — Why not? We're shooting for the stars (ha!) here, right?

Meryl Streep — See above. Go big or go home.

Sean Connery — Someone please make this happen. Just go easy on him with the Cha Cha or any high energy dances.

Angelina Jolie — She seems like she'd be really strict with her practicing. I can see her doing a powerful tango.

Christoph Waltz — He's awesome and his last name is Waltz. DWTS judges would have a lot of fun with that pun.

Jennifer Hudson — She did a reality show, got an Oscar. She could do another reality show, get another Oscar.

So, yes, that's all wishful thinking there. Here's how it would be more likely to go down:

Renee Zellweger — If they get her, that's great. This one I could actually see happening. She hasn't had a movie released since 2010 and she's got nothing in production currently.

Cuba Gooding Jr. — The fact that I had to look it up to make sure he hasn't already done DTWS says it all.

Kim Bassinger — I mean, do you know what she's up to?

Mel Gibson — I really wouldn't be shocked if I heard he was joining. Maybe he would want to prove to people that he can be down-to-earth... ?

A random sound editor, a costume designer that won for a period piece, and a winner of the award of Best Animated Short would round out the group.

Of course, we'll have to wait and see what actually ends up happening. Renee Zellweger or not, I'll be impressed DWTS is able to pull off an all Oscar winners season.
