LANY On Why Making Music Matters More Than Ever During Turbulent Times

When Paul Jason Klein, Les Priest, and Jake Goss began crafting their latest LANY album, they had no idea what 2020 had in store for Mama’s Boy. Then again, nobody knew, but as with the indie pop-meets-alt rock trio’s earlier albums (2017’s LANY, 2018’s Malibu Nights), the 14-track album held a mirror up to the world its listeners were navigating. “And we believe in those 14 songs so much,” says lead vocalist Klein. Track 4's “If This Is The Last Time,” for example, was an especially prescient sign of the times — unravelling what it might be like to say goodbye to a parent or loved one. “It has been really amazing to see that song take shape and see the world kind of lean on that song,” he says, “and I think that's really special and cool.”

"I think that the world needs people to do what they were meant to do. For us, that's writing songs and being in this band and putting out music."
