This New 'Fantastic Beasts' Photo Will Make You Seriously Thirsty For Dumbledore

by Amy Roberts

Prepare to have a spell cast on your heart, because Entertainment Weekly has published some new images from Fantastic Beasts 2 (officially titled, Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes Of Grindlewald) and a certain Albus Dumbledore is looking hot. Seriously. In the two new images that have been released, one shows an equally handsome and incredibly dapper Newt Scamander, played by Eddie Redmayne, leaping through a sewer tunnel system. But it's the second image which shows a candid, behind the scenes shot of Jude Law in costume as Dumbledore having a laugh with Redmayne that will have you dropping your jaw in lusty delight. Who knew Dumbledore was such a stud?

It's worth noting that in this behind the scenes image, the costume that Law is wearing looks different to the one shown in the recently released Fantastic Beasts 2 cast photo. In that previous image, Dumbledore was wearing a thick, corduroy coat, and looking incredibly perturbed. In this new image, however, Dumbledore's look feels a lot more casual, and comes with the addition of a fetching black hat. In fact, in his shirt, waistcoat, and slacks, his dapper ensemble looks very similar to that of Salamanders. And since the two characters will be working together in Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes Of Grindelwald in order to take down Johnny Depp's dark wizard, Gellert Grindelwald, their similarly smart, handsome looks make them look like quite the team.

Clearly, young Dumbledore is quite a bit different to how fans will remember the beloved character from the books, and the original set of movies. Which is to be expected, considering that the character is quite a bit younger than when we all first became acquainted with him. However, in a November interview with Entertainment Weekly, the movie's executive producer, David Heyman, explained that Law was chosen for the role because, he "has many of the qualities we find in Dumbeldore in the Potter films." Heyman said:

He’s got authority, he’s got a twinkle in his eye, he’s sometimes a bit elliptical. So you have that but also have this youthful energy and jubilance. So he brings that twinkle, mischief, authority, and power, but at the same time brings far more youthful energy to the film. You understand why he would be your favorite teacher and be someone you believe is an extraordinary wizard.

And how. To recap, Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes Of Grindelwald, follows on from the events at the end of the last movie in which the MACUSA (Magical Congress of the United States of America) captured Grindelwald with the help of Scamander. However, the powerful, dark wizard escaped custody and has set about gathering followers in pursuit of raising pure-blood wizards to rule over all non-magical beings. Enlisting Scamander's help, Dumbledore sets about efforts to thwart Grindelwald's plans.

Suffice to say, the character will need that youthful energy, power, and authority of which Heyman described, to help make this plan a success. And judging from this new image, fans will greatly enjoy watching him doing so. Because my goodness, there's no delicate way to put this, you guys — Dumbledore is hot now. Really hot.

Frankly, it's a little bit of a shock for fans to adjust to. After all, the old Dumbledore that we know and love was an affable, cuddly fellow who most fans likely dreamed of having as their own wizard mentor. One who you could easily foresee yourself enjoying a cup of cocoa with while learning some vital wizard skills. But the new, young Dumbledore? Well, let's just say that fans might be left daydreaming about some different scenarios with him by the time that Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes Of Grindelwald hits theaters in 2018.
