Get Jiro! author and world-renowned chef Anthony Bourdain is releasing a comic book series filled with foodie ghost stories. Bourdain's Hungry Ghosts will be one of the first series published by Karen Berger's new Dark Horse Comics imprint, Berger Books. Berger's previous imprint, Vertigo, published Bourdain's Get Jiro! in 2012.

Hungry Ghosts is a four-issue anthology comic based on 100 Candles, a Japanese game dating back to the Edo period (1603 - 1868). In the original game, samurai would take turns telling ghost stories to frighten one another. Bourdain's version recasts the samurai as chefs whose scary stories focus on restaurants and food. This sounds amazing, right?

The horror turn isn't new for Bourdain. Get Jiro! centered on the eponymous sushi chef, who practiced his art in a dystopian version of Los Angeles run by restaurateur kingpins. Eater called the book "comically violent," noting that "Jiro slays obnoxious customers for requesting California rolls, and Rose tortures a chef for serving tomatoes out of season."
