Are Nick Viall & Vanessa Grimaldi Still Friends? The ‘Bachelor’ Exes Don’t Seem Ready To Sever Every Tie
Though the unofficial motto of Bachelor Nation is "I'm not here to make friends," it sounds like this ex-Bachelor couple is here to be friends. (Ugh, sorry.) Last Friday, Nick Viall and Vanessa Grimaldi announced their split. Season 21’s couple is no longer engaged. On a brighter note, they apparently ended things on relatively good terms and, judging from their statements, it looks like Nick and Vanessa are still friends. Or at the very least, they’re giving the “just friends” thing a try.
In Nick and Vanessa's joint statement to E! News, they said,
"It's with a great amount of heartbreak for the both us as we have decided to end our engagement. We gave this relationship our all and we are saddened that we did not get the fairytale ending we hoped for. We will continue to be there for each other no matter what. This hasn't been an easy decision, however, as we part ways, we do so with lots of love and admiration for each other."
Though remaining chummy with an ex is often easier said than done, it sounds like the former couple is determined to make a go of it. In a recent interview with Us Weekly, the two-time Bachelorette contestant said he and Grimaldi are “of course” still pals. Nick added, "My friends, my family and Vanessa and I are still very much each other’s support system. We’re trying to do that and it’s a challenge at times, but we still realize that we’re there for each other."
Though they're no longer romantically linked, it appears as though they haven't severed every tie. A source told Entertainment Tonight's that Vanessa is “still in contact with Nick so that makes things easier. They're still close.”
While maintaining a chill friendship with a past significant other can be a complicated undertaking, it’s not totally impossible; conscious uncoupling is real, y'all. If Vanessa and Nick follow in the footsteps of Gwyneth Paltrow and Chris Martin/Wilmer Valderrama and Demi Lovato/Jennifer Lopez and Marc Anthony, all the power to them. And if they ultimately decide being just friends isn't going to work out after all? All the power to them. As long as they're happy, this member of Bachelor Nation will be happy.
