If you've been following the Women's March, odds are you've seen the sea of pink hats. Thanks to an organization called The Pussyhat Project, pink has become the unofficial color of the Women's March. The group has also made the hat a popular accessory at the march, and at similar events around the country. Can you buy a Pussy Hat, you ask? The short answer is no, but allow me to explain.

The Women's March started organizing back in November of 2016 shortly after the election results came in, according to the LA Times and it's no coincidence that the Pussyhat Project became a reality shortly thereafter. The group had the idea to sew, crochet, and knit hats for everyone at the march who wanted one. Instead of charging money for the cap, they decided to give away the hats instead. They also urged others to make their own for the event and for their family members as well. To say that the trend caught on is an understatement.

Basically, any pink cap can be a "Pussy Hat" if you want it to be. But if you want to replicate the exact cat-eared style you've been seeing on social media, you're going to have to make it yourself. There's no right or wrong way to make one of these hats. You can use any fabric or pattern you'd like. What makes it a Pussy Hat is really the intention behind it.

However, the Pussyhat Project has templates for you to follow on their website. They show exactly how to sew, crochet, and knit the pattern, so you can get in on the action no matter what your creativity level is.

The hats aren't just at the Women's March on Washington either. People from all across the globe are rocking the accessory. Fingers crossed that this trend continues throughout the next four years and beyond.
