How To Use Your Phone At Night Without Ruining Your Sleep

When it comes to sleep, research has proven that there are certain nighttime rituals that will make you doze off easier and faster. Among the most-suggested tricks? Turning off your cell phone and other electronics before bed. But, if you have trouble disconnecting before bed (and let’s face it, who doesn’t?), there’s good news: There may finally be a way to look at your phone in bed without damaging your sleep.

Research has proven that the lights from TVs and phone screens can throw off our body’s natural sleep rhythm. Luckily for us tech addicts, there may now be a way around that. Scientists have just discovered that wearing dark glasses can actually counteract the effects of the blue light — meaning you could check your phone without worrying about ruining your sleep.

As the University of Houston recently concluded, wearing blue light-blocking glasses will not only serve as a shield for your eyes, but it will also help you fall asleep more naturally than if you continued using your phone without any barriers. It’s a whole new solution for your inability to resist looking at your tablet or smartphone before bed.

Of course, it’s always a great idea to try to disconnect from all tech before sleeping if possible. In addition to the screen light disrupting your body’s sleep pattern, staying plugged into email and social media can get your mental gears going, making it that much harder to calm your mind and fall asleep.

But while it would be ideal to disconnect completely, it’s unrealistic for many to do so in today’s digitally driven environment. Wearing these types of glasses could be a good back-up solution for those who just can’t quit their tech (even for a few hours!) and still want to get a good night’s sleep.

At the very least, it's certainly worth a shot. After all, the better sleep you get, the happier you'll feel in the morning!
