On Friday afternoon, social media erupted with the news that former Breitbart Executive Chair Steve Bannon was leaving his post as chief strategist to President Trump.

“White House Chief of Staff John Kelly and Steve Bannon have mutually agreed today would be Steve’s last day,” White House Press Secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders said in a statement. “We are grateful for his service and wish him the best.”s

Bannon is the latest of Trump's senior aides to leave the White House. Former Press Secretary Sean Spicer, Chief of Staff Reince Priebus, and short-lived Communications Director Anthony Scaramucci all left their positions in July. Liberal Twitter was, predictably, thrilled, and as soon as the news broke, began tripping over themselves in a race to deliver the funniest, most insightful tweet. Some users were overjoyed, some voiced caution, and others expressed disbelief that a far-right, nationalist ideologue like Steve Bannon was ever allowed to occupy such a powerful position within the White House.
