The romantic saga of Britney Spears and Justin Timberlake was covered in patchy-yet-intriguing detail on the Saturday night premiere of Lifetime's Britney Ever After. But one scene that appeared to be a conjecture at best — thus becoming eyebrow-raising fodder in the process — was when the movie had a scene where Justin Timberlake visited Britney Spears at the 2007 VMAs. While there is no confirmation in real life that Timberlake met with Spears before her now infamous, criticized "Gimme More" VMAs performance, Britney Ever After saw fit to add in this juicy moment between the pop star exes.

As for if that ever happened in real life, Bustle reached out to reps for Spears and Timberlake for their thoughts on the film in general and to Lifetime about its accuracy, but has not yet heard back. At the end of the movie, the network aired this disclaimer: "Although based on a true story, some characters are fictionalized composites, and some events have been compressed, reorganized or fictionalized for purposes of dramatization." When the movie was first announced, reps for Spears told Us Weekly, "Britney Spears will not be contributing in any way, shape, or form to the Lifetime biopic ... nor does it have her blessing."

In the context of the movie's story, it was an interesting moment. As the movie tells it, by the time the 2007 VMAs roll around in Britney Ever After, Britney has hit rock bottom. She's walked out off a photo shoot (where she rubbed rib sauce on a couture gown), she had shaved her head, and her stability was wavering. Much like in reality, within the Britney Ever After story, the VMAs were Britney's chance to really make a comeback. And then, Britney grabbed the black sparkly bra and booty shorts and it was all over. But, before she did that, she had a visitor in the movie. There was a knock at her door and who appeared? Justin, in all his moody, serious goodness. While Britney didn't come to the door to see him, Justin passed along his well wishes. "Tell her I hope she breaks everything," he tells her assistant. "She'll know what it means."

This scene may not have actually taken place though. Timberlake told Vanity Fair in 2011 that he hadn't spoken to Spears in "nine or 10 years," since they broke up. The pop star had kept his distance while he built his solo career up. Spears, for her part, kept her distance too. The two have yet to ever really come back together in any public, meaningful way, although one might hope that any bad blood the Spears and Timberlake had has fizzled out by now. Well, I certainly hope that's the case.
