On Tuesday, Phoenix high school student Jacob Staudenmaier asked Emma Stone to prom in an elaborate video inspired by the movie that won her a 2017 Academy Award. Well, Emma Stone has responded to the La La Land promposal and even though she can't attend the prom with Staudenmaier, her response makes up for it.
While appearing on Good Morning America Friday, he read live a response he received from Stone. It reads as follows:
"JACOB, thanks for making the greatest proposal I have ever received. I can't tell you what an honor that was and how much I smiled through that entire beautifully orchestrated video. I'm in London working, but I hope you have the best time at prom, and I'm grateful you thought of me. THANK YOU. P.S. I do see Gosling around the eyes. Love, Emma."
First of all, the fact that Stone said she see's her La La Land co-star Ryan Gosling "around [Staudenmaier's] eyes" is a huge compliment in itself. The teen had previously been told that he resembled Gosling in Remember the Titans. "We took a picture next to it and everyone was like, 'Yeah you look like him,'" he told GMA. "I felt like incorporating that into the song, since she starred in the movie with him." Even though he himself doesn't see the resemblance, he's not going to stop others from saying so. He said, "If I get compared to him, I have no problem with that!"
It's unfortunate that the Oscar winner can't go, but seeing as she's busy filming a movie, it's totally understandable. Her response is also perfection — and that's all Staudenmaier wanted in the first place. So, really, his wish came true. He previously told ABC News, "Whether she says yes or no, I think just a response in general would be amazing. I guess if she did say yes, that would be the best outcome possible. Either way I've enjoyed everything that's happened so far."
Not only did Stone respond and compare him to Gosling, but Staudenmaier has basically become famous overnight. I'd say this has all worked out greatly for him in the end. Yes, it would've been amazing for Stone to actually go to prom with him, but I'm sure he realized that was a long shot.
Plus, he's still going to prom and plans on having a fantastic time. He doesn't have a date, but I'll be the first one to tell you I think prom is truly overrated and sometimes it's so much better to go alone or with a group, which is what Staudenmaier plans to do. "I'm going to have a great time with all my friends," he said. Yes you are!
If you've yet to watch his promposal, here you go. You'll soon see why Stone responded, because it's that impressive.
