Just when you thought 2016 could not be more of a waking nightmare, it goes and proves us wrong once again. According to TMZ, venerated film icon Carrie Fisher reportedly suffered “a massive heart attack” while on a flight from London to LAX on Friday. Shortly after the upsetting news broke, a number of Fisher's fans took to Twitter to put the following out into the ether: Hey, the Force? Do not let us down. Seriously.

Update, 10:27 p.m. EST: Fisher is reportedly currently in intensive care and her condition remains "unknown," according to Entertainment Tonight. Despite earlier reports, her brother, Todd, told ET, "We certainly do not know her condition, that's why she is in ICU. I'm sure everyone wants to speculate, but now is not the time for that."

Update, 7:23 p.m. EST: The Associated Press reported that Fisher is now in stable condition, according to her brother Todd Fisher. He told AP that she is "out of emergency" and stabilized, but he could not disclose further information.

Earlier: TMZ's source said the 60-year-old actor went into cardiac arrest 15 minutes before the aircraft touched down in Los Angeles, and an EMT who happened to be on board reportedly administered "life-saving measures." Once the plane landed, the Star Wars legend was reportedly taken to a nearby hospital. Bustle reached out to Fisher’s rep for comment, but has not heard back at the time of publication.

Yes, the Force is a thing from a fictional universe. And yes, we fans are invoking it in the wake of this scary report. And no, these tweets are not jokes. If there was ever a time for the Force to step up to the plate and prove it is part of this mess of a universe, too, it is now.
