'Game Of Thrones' Fans, Prepare To See Jaime Lannister In A Whole New Light

by Allie Gemmill

If you're looking for something just an heated, intense, and gripping as some of the plotlines that Game of Thrones' Jaime Lannister finds himself in, then you might want to check out Shot Caller, a new film starring the actor who plays Jaime, Nikolaj Coster-Waldau. In an exclusive clip from Shot Caller, Coster-Waldau's character, Jacob, finds himself in prison for charges related to a DUI. As he enters the prison yard, he is immediately introduced to the group of white men led by Bottles, a prisoner who very clearly lays out the rules to Jacob.

Played by Jeffrey Donovan, Bottles cuts a pretty imposing figure. While it's not clear from the get-go how Bottles got his name, he certainly doesn't look like a man you want to brush off — those tattoos certainly indicate he's seen and done some things in his time. Furthermore, the clip does a good job of establishing that Jacob is still pretty green to prison life. Although he clearly earns some attention for readily getting into a prison yard brawl to maintain dominance, Bottles reminds him that he has to be willing to get his hands dirty in order to survive his prison sentence.

The clip is a mere taste of the kind of intense drama that will likely unfold in Shot Caller, which opens in theaters on Aug. 18. It's also very interesting for that particular subset of Game of Thrones fans who love Jaime Lannister and by extension, love Coster-Waldau and want to see him be just as much of a badass in a contemporary setting. He may not have a sword and yes, it looks like he has both hands, but the story of one man's complete transformation and induction into a life of crime is just as gritty and grim as anything we've seen Jaime do on Game of Thrones.

If you can't wait until Aug. 18 to see Shot Caller in theaters, you may have luck finding it available on DirecTV (it's been available since July 20). Seriously, fans of Jaime Lannister: Don't miss this one.
