He's a wildly popular correspondent on Comedy Central's The Daily Show with Trevor Noah, but after successfully roasting the 45th President of the United States at the White House Correspondents' Dinner, a lot more people know Hasan Minhaj's name than a week ago. Although last Saturday marked a hallmark in the comedian's career, he never forgets the people who have been by his side before he blew up, including his beloved wife. But just how did Hasan Minhaj and Beena Patel Minhaj meet? Turns out the couple go way back. Before the lights, camera, action of Hasan's career, he and Beena were students together.

The comedian and his management consultant wife met in college at the University of California, Davis, according to the New York Times. Hasan and Beena wed in January 2015 based on an old Instagram photo shared by Hasan. When Hasan took his one-man show, "Homecoming King," to his alma mater in 2016, the '07 grad was asked by the campus magazine about the moment he first saw Beena. He responded,

"I met the love of my life there. It's wild. When you're living your life, you don't realize that history is happening in real time. So when I first saw her as a freshman, I was just living on the quiet floor in the Thoreau dorms. She was just a girl I had a crush on. I didn't know she'd be my wife."

Hasan told the The New York Times he and Beena were pretty old school when it came to living together. "Beena and I didn't move in together until we got married. We kept it very traditional ... so I had to evolve very quickly."

These days, the couple lives in the Hell's Kitchen neighborhood of Manhattan where they're adjusting to being New Yorkers, according to Hasan's NYT profile. With his growing career in entertainment, I'm sure we'll see more of him and Beena on the red carpet for years to come.
