Here's How To Make Your Graduation Cap Stay Put

There's plenty to worry about on your graduation day, and a loose graduation cap shouldn't be one of them. You'll need to know how to make your graduation cap stay, in order to shorten your list of potentially embarrassing incidents that might occur.

IMO, the most humiliating thing to happen to folks on their graduation is falling on the stage. This is by no means limited to just the stage either; a quick search on YouTube shows the many "graduation fails" that range from falling off the stage, falling on the stairs leading up/down from the stage, or falling on the walk to your seat. Basically, there's a lot of falling when it comes to graduation. It's understandable really considering you can feel all eyes on you and you're trying so hard not to mess up. If you did or do, no worries — it happens to the best of us.

But if you can limit the chances of something embarrassing happening, take that bull by the horns. As a graduate myself, I decided to wear ridiculously high heels to my ceremony — I didn't fall, but I was terrified I would and my shoes were at the forefront of my mind, rather than being in the moment.

At the end of the day, embarrassing things happen and we're all human. But, if you can try to preempt any mishaps, you're doing the best you can. So here's how to make your graduation cap stay on, until you actually want it to come off.

Tuck & Bobby Pin

If your initial thought was to use bobby pins to secure your grad cap, you'd be correct! This YouTuber has come up with a clever method of tucking your graduation cap, which makes it easier to pin down. If possible, use bobby pins that match the color of your cap so they're not noticeable. Don't forget to unpin your cap when it's time to throw it in the air!

The Hairband Transformation

Gals with natural hair, thick hair, or those who want to seriously minimize the risk of their cap going AWOL, will love this hack that this YouTuber discovered on Pinterest. This vlogger attaches her graduation cap onto a hairband, so she can wear her cap with ease and remove it as and when she pleases. It's much easier than it sounds and you don't need a lot of equipment in order to complete this simple DIY either. It's ideal for those who are wearing a fancy hairstyle for graduation, or folks who want their cap to look more like an elegant fascinator than a frumpy grad cap.

The Concealed Clips

This tutorial includes a great method to keep your graduation cap on: Wig clips. The vivacious YouTuber shows viewers how to sew wig clips into the graduation cap, leaving your cap to look untouched. This method does involve some sewing, but it's not too tricky and the results are flawless. If you want to look perfectly polished come graduation, this tutorial is the one for you!

Whether your ceremony goes without a hitch or you take a tumble on the stage, at least your graduation cap will stay on. Whatever happens, don't sweat the small stuff and enjoy every second of your big day — you've earned it!
