Lucas Hedges Has A Date In Mind For The Oscars
He's on his way to having a rewarding career in show business, but is acting newcomer Lucas Hedges dating anyone? It looks like the Manchester by the Sea star is too focused on award season to settle down just yet. The Brooklynite won the Critics' Choice Award back in December 2016 for Best Young Actor and will go up against veteran thespians Mahershala Ali, Jeff Bridges, Dev Patel, and Michael Shannon for Best Supporting Actor at this year's Academy Awards. He's also nominated for a SAG Award in the same category.
At 20 years old, Hedges is the youngest Oscar nominee of the 2017 class. When asked by Entertainment Weekly who might join him as a date, Hedges couldn't help but play coy. "I think I know who I'm going to ask," Hedges said. "But I think I should wait to confirm that."
Considering that his dad is screenwriter and director Peter Hedges, Hedges may turn Oscar's night into a family affair. Surely, he's been well-groomed for the high stakes life of a Hollywood actor. However, when Hedges heard about his Oscar nomination, he did what any rational young adult living at home would do — freak TF out. "I woke up and I thought I'd check my phone, and immediately I got a call from my publicist," Hedges told The Los Angeles Times. "I jumped out of bed ran and screamed to my parents. My dad jumped out of the shower ... It was insane."
While the shock and awe of simply being nominated is still sinking in for Hedges, he told The Hollywood Reporter his "once-in-a-generation" role as Patrick Chandler in Manchester by the Sea means more to him than anything. "I grew up with kids like Patrick and in many respects I was a lot like Patrick in high school and in many respects he was the polar opposite of me," Hedges said. "But I feel like my heart exists in him. We have the same heart. His story is a story that I really wanted to tell."
Before Hedges' possibly takes home the ultimate acting gold at the Oscars, he'll make a quick pit stop at the Screen Actors' Guild on Sunday, Jan. 29. Despite being nominated for Outstanding Performance by a Male Actor in a Supporting Role, 2017 is sure to be the year that Hedges becomes a leading man.
