James Corden's 'Ocean's 8' Trailer Appearance Is Brief, But The Internet Is Still Not Having It

Fans of James Corden aren't necessarily fans of James Corden in the Ocean's 8 trailer. Nowhere was that more evident than on Tuesday morning, when the first full trailer for the film dropped and the internet came together to celebrate the badass women teaming up to rob Anne Hathaway blind at the Met Gala. But that celebration stalled slightly when viewers caught sight of the Late Late Show host, and asking why Corden is in Ocean's 8 seems to be a universal thing to do at the moment. So, let's break this down.

First of all, Corden has only two lines in the entire trailer. In both clips, which appear to be taken from the same scene, he's seen wearing a suit and seated in an intimate restaurant with Debbie Ocean (Sandra Bullock), the estranged sister of the late Danny Ocean (as the trailer reveals that Danny died in 2018). "Revenge. It's a twofer," he says the first time he's seen. The next brief flash of the same scene, he says, "Is it genetic? Are the whole family like this?" to which Debbie responds, "Literally."

Of course, his appearance in the trailer isn't unexpected. The host's involvement with the film was announced by Deadline January 2017. According to the Deadline article, Corden "will play an insurance investigator who grows suspicious of [the group of women]." And this will be far from his first film role, considering he's been in Into The Woods and Begin Again and also done voice acting.

Finally, let's be real; once promotion for the film starts in earnest, an Ocean's 8 Carpool Karaoke is more or less guaranteed, so why shouldn't Corden be in the movie? Well, explain that to fans, because they have a lot of questions.

1. It's A Star Studded Cast

For some, the host's appearance just seemed strange next to heavy hitters like Rihanna, Mindy Kaling, and Cate Blanchett.

2. He's Maybe A Little Overexposed

James Corden has had quite a banner year, between hosting the Grammy Awards in February, the endless, epic Carpool Karaokes, and, most recently, having Harry Styles take over hosting his show because his wife was having their baby. This fan couldn't help but poke fun at how ubiquitous Corden is nowadays.

3. Okay, This Is Kind Of Unfair

Meanwhile, other fans were angry that Corden reportedly speaks more than Rihanna, Awkwafina, or Helena Bonham Carter do in the trailer — which, come on.

4. There's Just Something That Doesn't Add Up

Some fans weren't necessarily surprised to see him. Just confused as to why he was there and how he fits into what will be the most epic heist of 2018, that's all.

5. No Man's Land

For others, the amount of men featured in the Ocean's 8 trailer is already too many, and, if anyone has to be cut, they'd like it to be James Corden. Perhaps he can be replaced in his role with Beyoncé?

6. No, Just No

There's basically very few bad situations for which this Kanye gif is not appropriate.

7.  Live Blogging The Trailer

Some thought that Corden was bringing down the coolness factor of the entire trailer. Perhaps they simply weren't buying him as anyone other than James Corden, regardless of who his character was meant to be or be like?

8. Keep The Dream Alive

Considering that both his lines in the trailer looked to be from the same scene, other fans are hoping that that scene makes up the entirety of Corden's role in the upcoming film. It seems unlikely, but we'll see.

9. The Great Unifier

Well, that's... sort of sweet, I guess.

10. But There's A Silver Lining

Really, if the only complaint about the trailer is that Corden is in it, that says some great things about the trailer and the potential of the film.

11. OK, But It's Also Really Funny

The host is basically a case study in how to take over Hollywood with almost no one noticing until it's too late, and that's kind of impressive. Really, we should all be taking notes.

At the end of the day, fans will have to see how large a role Corden has in the movie and how well he does in it. Considering his movie roles to this point, it's sure to be an entertaining ride — and hopefully all the critics will stick around to see it.
