Men's red carpet fashion can sometimes be a little boring, but not so at the Met Gala (remember Zayn Malik's robot arms?). If there's one famous dude we can usually count on to spice things up when it comes to style, it's Kanye West. Unfortunately for fans of his personal style, Kanye skipped the 2017 Met Gala, which took place Sunday night in honor of Comme des Garcons designer Rei Kawakubo. Instead, his wife Kim Kardashian West is expected to attend without him for this first time since they made their Met Gala debut in 2013.

The Wests have attended the Met Gala together for the past four years, always wearing spectacular ensembles. Last year, Kanye channeled the event's Manus x Machina theme in a heavily embellished Balmain jacket and light blue contacts that gave him a total robot vibe.

So, why did he opt out in 2017? According to People, a source told the publication that West is "still very much enjoying his time off from public events." The same source continued, “He’ll be staying back in L.A. with their kids. Everything is great with him and Kim and he’s supportive of her going solo.” A representative for Kardashian West confirmed to Bustle that she would indeed be hitting the event without her husband, but with siblings Kylie and Kendall Jenner in attendance, she'll certainly have some stylish company.

Until next year, at least we have this super shiny and glam look from 2016.

The year before, he let his all-black suiting set the state for his wife's stunning, feathered "naked" dress.

Here's hoping he comes back in 2018 (and coordinates his ensemble with Kim K)!
