Larry Nassar was sentenced to 40 to 175 years in prison on Wednesday for molesting underage girls in his capacity as the USA Gymnastics doctor. As the sentencing was unfolding, the Detroit Free Press illustrated the appalling scope of his abuse by tweeting out each of Nassar's victim's names. Given that 156 of his former patients testified against him in court, the result was a lengthy Twitter thread.

The Free Press did this without any introduction or preamble. It first tweeted out the name of one Nassar victim, Kyle Stephens, and kept going from there.

Nassar was already facing an effective life sentence before this trial. Earlier, he pleaded guilty to possession of child porn and, in a separate trial, to molesting three former patients who were not Olympics gymnasts. The former case resulted in a 60-year sentence for the 54-year-old doctor; the latter case hasn't yet gone to sentencing, but it's now largely a moot point. Between the sentence Nassar was given Wednesday and his earlier child porn conviction, he'll now assuredly be spending the rest of his life behind bars.

"You do not deserve to walk outside of a prison ever again," Judge Rosemarie Aquilina said at his sentencing.

Here's are all of the victims, some of whom wished to remain anonymous, that the Free Press tweeted.

"It is worth noting that there are other survivors beyond this list that, understandably, chose to stay silent," the Free Press wrote in a subsequent tweet.

During the sentencing, Aquilina read excerpts from a letter that Nassar had written two months after agreeing to plead guilty. In the letter, Nassar said he was "manipulated" into pleading guilty, accused the media of "sensationalizing" the accusations and — in a comment that reportedly drew gasps from the courtroom — wrote that "hell hath no fury like a woman scorned."

Aquilina, who said it was an "honor and privilege to sentence" Nassar, also addressed those who testified against him.

"Thank you so much for being here, and for your strength," she said. "You are no longer victims. You are survivors."
