After it was reported that Linkin Park singer Chester Bennington had committed suicide fans of the band took to Twitter to mourn the singer. According to TMZ, Bennington's body was discovered early in the morning on Thursday, July 20, at a private residence in Palos Verdes Estates in Los Angeles County. Bustle reached out to a rep for Linkin Park for comment and to the LAPD, but did not receive an immediate response. Bennington's bandmate Mike Shinoda confirmed the singer's death on Twitter, writing, "Shocked and heartbroken, but it's true. An official statement will come out as soon as we have one."
Bennington was 41 years old when he passed away. He is survived by six children from two marriages, and his wife Talinda Bently. TMZ reports that Bennington has struggled with addiction to drugs and alcohol for years, however there's no word yet on whether or not he had anything in his system at the time of his death.
Bennington reportedly had a close relationship with Chris Cornell — lead singer of several groups including Soundgarden and Audioslave — who committed suicide earlier this year. Bennington even wrote an open letter when the news broke of Cornell's passing. Today would have been Cornell's 53rd birthday.
Many of Bennington's fans have expressed their shock over the sad news of his death online.
