The First 'Mary Poppins' Photos Are Here

by Alexis Rhiannon
Walt Disney Pictures

The moment we've all been waiting for has finally arrived — the first Mary Poppins Returns photos are here. After 50 years of anticipation, the first images from the long-awaited sequel were released on Wednesday. They feature Emily Mortimer and Ben Whishaw as grown-up Jane and Michael Banks and introduce a new generation of children ready to be molded by everyone’s favorite nanny. That, of course, is Emily Blunt as Mary Poppins, who looks just as you've dreamed she would in these pictures. It's enough to have me jumping out of my skin waiting for the film's Christmas 2018 premiere.

But the most excited person of all, maybe even more than you or I, has to be Lin-Manuel Miranda. He's playing a new character, a lamp-lighter named Jack, and he's fully beaming in all the Entertainment Weekly photos. The plot will likely center around Michael’s three children Annabel, played by Pixie Davies, Georgie, played by Joel Dawson, and John, played by Nathanael Saleh. But in these photos, it’s Miranda’s enthusiasm that steals the spotlight. It's clear that both the character and the actor himself are brimming with joy to be a part of such a project. And, somehow, just when I thought it was impossible, it's made me love him even more.

The magical nanny apparently makes her return to the Banks Family's lives after a "personal loss," attempting to bring in a little light and whimsy. And it appears she does just that from these set photos.

Every image is more proof that the sequel will be filled with just as much fun, laughter, and and magic ‌as the original. And, if you ask me, that's about most supercalifragilisticexpialidocious news that we could ever ask for.
