Some people get a huge thrill from having sex in public places, but the places they're choosing may surprise you. A new study from Dr. Ed, an online doctor, asked 500 Americans and 500 Europeans all about their sexual preferences and activities — and there were some interesting insights into where we like to have sex al fresco.
But if you are someone who likes to get frisky in public, it's important to be careful. I know it can be fun, and there are a lot of potential turn-ons that come with having sex in public, including "the risk of getting caught, the thrill of performing and being watched, and the excitement of doing something taboo," Astroglide's Resident Sexologist Dr. Jessica O'Reilly tells Bustle. Just make sure you're not, you know, actually getting caught or traumatizing anyone. It's really easy to end up with a pinecone stuck to your ass and shame in your heart. Or so I've heard.
That is why I was really surprised at the most popular places for public sex — because some of them are a lot riskier than you might imagine. Here's where people are choosing to get it on in public, because you might want to knock before going into a public bathroom.

A Public Park, Field, Forest, Or Garden — 26.1%
I'm a little surprised at this because never have I ever thought to myself, "Mmmm, I just can't wait to get down in that public garden." But apparently I'm totally wrong, because 26.1 percent of people said that was their favorite place to have sex in public.

Inside The Car — 16.1%
Now, this I definitely get. It has some element of privacy, it's convenient, and it provides for a quick getaway. Plus, it's basically an American past time — and 16 percent of folks agree.

The Beach Or Ocean — 12.7%
Apparently 12.7 percent of people love a good orifice full of sand — or are at least better at avoiding sand than I am.

In A Public Bathroom — 5.6%
Over five percent of people chose a public bathroom for sex. Now, some people might think that's a little gross, but some fancy bars out there have some very nice bathrooms with really handy chairs and things... I've heard... from a friend.

At The Movies — 2.6%
Sex at the movies is something you always hear about it, but is actually way more difficult to pull off than you might think — and that's probably why only 2.6 percent of people said it was their favorite.

School, University, Or The Library: 2.4%
Some people want to give their minds a break and work their bodies.

Dressing Room: 2%
I don't know if they're talking about a dressing room for a play or at a clothing store, but either way I hope they're keeping the curtains closed.

Swimming Pool: 1.8%
Why is this less popular than the beach? There is no sand here, people. Although there is a lot more chlorine, so I may stand corrected.

Balcony: 1.6%
Getting into the very niche, 1.6 percent of people said their favorite place for public sex was the balcony. I'm guessing all of these people are very, very rich and/or huge fans of the opera and/or in The Breakfast Club, because balconies are just not a part of my daily life.

At Work: 1.4%
For the bored and the bold, 1.4 percent of people said that their favorite place to get down in public was at work. It's definitely a dangerous choice, no matter how relaxed your office is. But I guess it's more exciting than a coffee break.
It's important to know your state's laws be careful having sex somewhere you could get caught, but, if done safely and discreetly, it's easy to see where the excitement comes from. Just don't do anything illegal. Please? OK, thanks.
