The lunar phenomenon on Jan. 31 is going to be a spectacle for us here on Earth. It's the first time in over 150 years that a total lunar eclipse, blue moon and super moon will all be happening at the same time. While most of us knows what this means for our Instagram (hello, content), it's worth asking: what is the super blue blood moon's spiritual meaning? The rest of 2018 looks like it's going to be as bright as the full moon shines.

The beams of full moons are notoriously noted to tug at our emotional strings. Rituals commonly revolve around this lunar phase. It's a significant time to bring closure to a cycle that is no longer beneficial and manifest positivity for the future. The universe seems to be ~extra~ tuned in under the light of a glowing full moon. So, what does that mean for the astronomical extravaganza we're about to witness?

There are spiritual meanings and myths surrounding blue moons and blood moons alike rooted around the world. Mostly, as full moons are regarded as a tide of change, celebrations take place to heal and move forward. So don't be fooled when the moon looks fueled with anger as it turns a shade of red during the eclipse. Spiritually, the super blue blood moon could mean a positive change leading into the remaining months of 2018.

Spiritually speaking, the moon has always been a symbol of human emotions. It goes through phases, constantly, as we do. And when the moon has reached peak moon — when it's full — there's a spotlight on the feelings swept under the rug. When the moon eclipses, as it will on Jan. 31, that energy that supposedly affects our vibes can feel a little uncomfortable. That's not a bad thing. Forever Conscious explains, "Eclipses often bring turning points in our lives. They are often an instigator for change and illuminate areas of our lives that need attention." Whatever hasn't been settled since the end of 2017 has the opportunity to be realized under this eclipse and offered closure.

This particular moon will rise in the sign of Leo: The fiery, fierce, loud sign we all know and love to be around. Sage Goddess advised, "If there was ever a time to release your personal primal roar into the Universe, it is now! This full moon will emanate special and rare feminine lunar energy, infused with the creativity, leadership, and dignity of Leo." Don't hold your spirit back! Carry on a self-love ritual whether that's taking a candle lit bubble bath, organizing the folders on your desktop or scheduling a few doctors appointments. The super blue blood moon might ~feel~ a little emotional, but purging your emotions on the blank pages of a diary could lead to powerful observations about yourself. And that could lead to positive next steps in your life.

Cherokee Billie, spiritual advisor, added to the spiritual significance of the lunar eclipse, "With a total lunar eclipse in particular, the blotting out of the Moon represents a resetting of your emotions, clearing away the emotional baggage of the previous six months." Technically the lunar eclipse is when the Earth is perfectly sandwiched between the Sun and Moon, casting Earth's shadow onto the moon like a projector. But in the realm of ~the universe~, this is a good time to eclipse emotional baggage and move on to bigger, better things.

The theme of healing and moving on to a brighter future during the time of the blood moon has been apparent for a while. National Geographic reports that the Batammaliba people who now reside in Togo and Benin have a myth that "the sun and the moon are fighting during an eclipse, and the people encourage them to stop." To this day, the total lunar eclipse is seen as a time to resolve feuds and come together. That's a little spirituality and human decency we could all benefit from right now.
