The Things Women Won't Apologize For In 2017
After 2016, women across the country just aren't having it. Whether they're sick of staying silent in the face of sexism, racism, and homophobia, or just sick of saying sorry when they're the ones being bumped into on the subway, women on Twitter are rallying around the trending hashtag #ThingsIWontApologizeFor to vent in solidarity.
It's a well known fact that women apologize far more than men do. Whether that's because we're taught to be overly polite so as not to be attacked or because we're actually sorry to have been born into such a misogynistic world doesn't matter. The fact is, we apologize for a lot of things we shouldn't have to, which includes (but is not limited to) our life choices, our appearance, our dietary habits, or just having the nerve speak up in any given situation.
As this phenomenon becomes more and more publicized, there have been plenty of attempts to turn back the tide of sorry. Some anti-apology tactics come via commercials, while others come via think pieces — and then there are those who argue we shouldn't have to stop saying sorry at all if we don't feel like it, thank you very much.
Whatever your view, there are whole lot of women who are over "sorry" in every way. Here's what some women on Twitter will no longer apologize for in 2017.
