Taylor Swift Didn't Show Up At The 2017 Grammys

In defiance of all of my hopes and dreams, Taylor Swift didn't attend the 2017 Grammys, which is the first time she's missed the award show since 2011. As for where Swift was during the Grammys, well, there were a lot of options. The singer has been more or less taking a break from the spotlight since her highly-publicized break up with Tom Hiddleston, as she had said she was planning to do in interviews from earlier in the year. In stark contrast to this time last year, when she was making headlines every second for a new act of kindness toward a fan or a new interview, Swift pretty much popped up to drop a Fifty Shades Darker duet with Zayn Malik and has been pretty much keeping to herself otherwise.

So where is she specifically on the night of the Grammys? That's kind of unclear. The last time the pop singer updated her Instagram was a week ago, with a pretty boss picture of her rocking a stage. The last time she tweeted was back in January. See what I mean about staying largely under the radar? My best guess for where Swift is at the moment is that she's probably with one of her 500 friends, watching the ceremony to support her friends who were nominated.

Because the thing is that Swift herself wasn't nominated for anything at the 2017 Grammys, so there's no real reason that she has to be there. Not only did she not release any music during the eligibility period that would make her qualified for any awards, but the song that she wrote, Calvin Harris' "This Is What You Came For" featuring Rihanna, didn't get any nods from the Recording Academy either.

Of course, you don't need to be nominated for an award in order to attend the Grammys — especially not if you're Swift, who has been featured in an advertisement for the ceremony. And, I mean, if it's a choice between attending an awards ceremony at which I'm not performing or presenting, and cuddling at home with my cats, I would choose the cats.

Wherever Taylor Swift is on Sunday night, one thing is probably for certain: she's having just as much, if not more, fun than any of us are.
