Not to be confused for Percy Jackson (aka Logan Lerman), as he often is, Dylan Minnette plays Clay in 13 Reasons Why and, at 20 years old, his list of acting credits far surpasses most veterans in the business. The new Netflix series follows Minnette's Clay and his classmates, who receive tapes from a classmate who killed herself two weeks earlier. The tapes, clouded in mystery, explain why she ended her life and reveal all kinds of secrets about herself and the people around her. It's an extremely sensitive topic that should be treated with care, and Minnette has definitely proven himself capable of handling it.
Minnette landed his first guest role when he was just 9 years old, playing "Jeffrey" on an episode of Drake & Josh. Since then, he's appeared in almost 40 different TV and movie projects. Like many actors these days, Minnette also has a knack for music. In 2010, he and his friends formed the alternative band, The Narwhals. According to their website, Minnette is one of two singers/guitarists in the band. They recently performed at The Troubadour, an LA venue that has also hosted the likes of Elton John, The Eagles, Carole King, and Van Morrison.
As impressive as that is, Minnette's acting career is what really stands out, so here are a few of his past projects that you should check out.
In the 2015 version of Goosebumps, Minnette played Zach Cooper, the new neighbor of R.L. Stine. He’s one of the main stars alongside Jack Black and Odeya Rush.
Looking for a horror flick to watch? You can see Minnette in Don't Breathe, which came out in 2016. Minnette plays one of the thieves who breaks into a blind man's home, where things quickly get, well, horrific.
I'll never forget when Minette briefly played Jerry Grant Jr. on Scandal and how his passing caused Mellie to spiral into depression.
Alexander And The Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day
In 2014, Minnette took the big screen alongside Steve Carell and Jennifer Garner in Alexander And The Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day. He played the older brother of the main character, Alexander.
Remember that horribly sad and disturbing Hugh Jackman and Jake Gyllenhaal movie Prisoners from 2013? It's about two little girls who go missing and one of the dads (Jackman) pretty much goes crazy trying to find her. Minnette plays the brother of one of the girls.
From 2007-2010, Minnette had a pretty solid TV career playing another character named Clay, as the son of Holly Hunter's character on Saving Grace.
The 2013 movie tells the story of a man on the run who hides out with a woman and her son. Although Gattlin Griffith plays that son for most of the movie, Minnette plays the high school version of Henry.
In a short-lived, sliding door-type show, Minnette plays the son of a police detective played by Jason Isaacs, or as you better know him, Lucius Malfoy.
Like every Hollywood actor, Minnette has guest starred in all types of shows. Some of his credits include Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., Nikita, Medium, Lie to Me, Supernatural, Lost, Grey's Anatomy, Two and a Half Men and The Mentalist.
Minnette was already a star on the rise, and once 13 Reasons Why premieres on March 31, he'll be on his way to becoming a household name.
