In the life of Pablo, one doesn't have to attend anything, let alone award ceremonies. Even if they're nominated to win things at those award ceremonies. Because, despite picking up a few noms (including "Best Rap Album"), Kanye West will be boycotting the 2017 Grammys. I know, I know. Come again? 'Ye's missing a chance to get up on a stage and deliver a diatribe at an award ceremony? Especially in such a politically charged time? Why is Kanye boycotting the Grammys? Does he have a fever?

According to TMZ, Kanye, Drake, and even Justin Bieber won't be in attendance at this year's ceremony. Allegedly, Bieber doesn't find the Grammys relevant, and Drake will be in Europe on tour. As for why West isn't showing up? The biggest reason probably has to do with Frank Ocean. That is, if you're taking West's (previous) word(s) for it.

Back in October, Yeezus threatened to boycott the 2017 Grammys if Frank Ocean's album Blonde wasn't nominated for anything. However, even though it was eligible, Blonde wasn't submitted for Grammy consideration by Ocean, his labels, his management, or his representatives. OK, so that should make West's boycott moot right? An artist can't get nominated if said artist did not submit any work... right?

During a long edict West delivered in Oakland, California, in the middle of his Saint Pablo Tour concert, West said, "The album I listened to the most this year is Frank Ocean's album. 'll tell you this right now: If his album is not nominated in no categories, I'm not showing up to the Grammys. As artists, we've got to come together to fight the bullsh*t."

At this time, 'Ye and the rest of the world already knew (Billboard revealed the news on October 17) that Ocean didn't submit. But, according to him, there was a way around that. Kanye reminded everyone that that, in 2010, the Grammys made an exception for Lady Gaga, even though she missed the submission deadline. "[Gaga] wasn't nominated for best new artist, right?" the rapper said, before going on to claim that, "But they wanted her to perform at the show. They wanted her to open. So the Grammys secretly changed something about the nominations in order to nominate her, in order for her to perform in the show."

Kanye's stance seems pretty clear. If the Recording Academy didn't consider Ocean's work for the 2017 Grammys, he wasn't going. Well, they didn't. So, he's reportedly not.

Or, consider the possibility that months later, none of this matters to Kanye and that he simply just doesn't want to attend. After a recent hospitalization, and after his wife Kim Kardashian's terrifying robbery, it wouldn't be the worst idea to take some time off from award ceremonies.

Then again, this is Yeezus. Nothing is ever simple. He could show up halfway through with a t-shirt cannon and dispense #Kanye2020 shirts to the unsuspecting crowd. In the middle of someone else's performance.

The Grammys air on Feb. 12, so find out whether or not Yeezus walks with us then.
